Abstract

Abstract: The background of this research is the lack of students' ability to understand the content of a reading, whereas understanding a reading is very important because it is related to other subjects. SQ3R method in learning to read to improve the ability to understand reading content for fourth grade students. This research aims to describe the application of the SQ3R method in teaching reading to improve the ability to understand reading content for fourth grade students. This research is Classroom Action Research. The subjects in this research were 27 class IV students. The results of the research show that using the SQ3R method can improve the quality of the learning process and student scores in understanding reading content. The increase in the ability to understand reading content using the SQ3R method is shown by the increase in the score for each student and the average score of students in one class. In pre-cycle activities, the percentage of students who achieved success indicators was 18%, in cycle I it was 54.54%, and in cycle II it was 91%.
