Abstract

Abstract: Poetry writing skills are a very important part of applying students' language and literature skills, therefore innovative learning media such as videos can have a significant impact on improving students' poetry writing skills. This research was motivated by the decline in students' interest and skills in writing poetry texts. This is due to the lack of active involvement and motivation of students so that they are less interested in writing poetry and the media and methods used in learning are less interesting. Therefore the aim of this research is to overcome this through the application of interesting and interactive learning media used to medium for writing poetry. The method used was classroom action research involving class VIII F students at SMPN 12 Malang. The results of the research showed that after applying video media in writing poetry based on the culture of Malang City, students experienced significant improvement because the class average increased from the class average of 75. to 85. The number of students who successfully achieved the minimum standard increased from 15 to 25 students. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of learning media using video and image media can be an effective solution for improving poetry writing skills.
