Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to improve student activeness and learning achievement by applying the discovery learning model in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) for fourth-grade students at SDN Arjowinangun 1. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted over two cycles, following the spiral model of C. Kemmis and .M.C. Taggart. The subjects of the study were 29 students. The data collected are students' activeness and academic achievement.. Data collection techniques included tests and non-test methods. The research procedure involved two cycles, each consisting of four steps: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of this study show an improvement in the engagement and academic achievement of fourth-grade students at SDN Arjowinangun 1. There was an improvement in activeness and academic achievement in each cycle. The research results show an increase in student activeness from 83% in cycle I to 90% in cycle II. Meanwhile, students' academic achievement increased from 72% in cycle I to 83% in cycle II. Based on these findings, the use of the Discovery Learning model can effectively enhance student engagement and learning achievement in Science and Social Studies for fourth-grade students.
