Abstract

Interest in reading is an encouragement from within a person which is followed by feelings of pleasure and interest in reading activities. This study aims to analyze and describe students' interest in reading on the thematic learning of the development of transportation technology in the third grade students of MI Modern Mutiara Iman, Ngunut District, Tulungagung Regency. This study uses qualitative methods, the data obtained in the form of descriptive about students' interest in reading the thematic learning sub-development of transportation technology. The research subjects in this study were all students of class III MI Modern Mutiara Iman, Ngunut Subdistrict, totaling 26 students. Data collection techniques in this research are interviews and questionnaires. The results showed that the total score of students' reading interest in obtaining thematic learning in the sub-theme of transportation technology development was 1,329 with an average score of reading interest of 51.1 students with detailed indicators of actions to look for reading to a score of 242 with an average score of 9.3. Indicator of enjoyment of reading 358 with an average score of 13.7. Indicator of need for reading 369 with an average score of 14.1. Indicator of the desire to always read 360 with an average score of 13.8. Thus it can be concluded that "the reading interest of third grade students towards thematic learning is at a high criterion". The results of this study can be used as input for teachers for class III and the principal of MI Modern Mutiara Iman to always provide support and motivate reading to students so students are happy in reading activities
